95 Hour Kids Yoga Teacher Training and Certification

Four weekends, 95 hours and a Yoga Alliance approved certification to teach children’s yoga. 88 of those hours are live with Amy and Sedef, on Zoom or in person in Alpharetta. Each Step can be booked on its own, and each one is a complete training in itself. Start with Step 1 or Step 2. Steps 3 and 4 build on Step 1.

Our 95-hour children’s yoga training is approved by Yoga Alliance to count toward your RCYT (Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher) designation, and includes trauma-sensitive design, classroom integration, and inclusive strategies for all learners. We also partner with Courses4Teachers / University of the Pacific so you can receive graduate level semester credit after completing your training. We welcome anyone with an interest in teaching children and do not require any yoga or teaching prerequisites.

Continuing Education Course Menu

We are in the process of expanding our online offerings for trainings and workshops. Please join our mailing list to stay up to date!

Read below for the requirements set forth by Yoga Alliance. As of July 2023, Yoga Alliance no longer differentiates between contact and non-contact hours. Every three years starting from your initial date of registration, each RYT and E-RYT must complete and log a minimum of:

  1. 45 hours teaching yoga, and
  2. 30 hours of yoga related training that is directly related to one of our Educational Categories.
  3. Teaching or training hours prior to registration do not count as Continuing Education. If you earn more than the required hours in a three-year period, the extra hours may not rollover into the next three-year period. Continuing Education hours should be spent learning something new, through research, study or experiential learning, rather than synthesizing or processing prior knowledge.

Who teaches this?

Every one of the 88 live hours is taught by Amy or Sedef. Both are Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 and RCYT, and both are lead trainers. They have taught hundreds of workshops and trainings and graduated hundreds of certified Grounded Kids teachers.

Amy Haysman, M.Ed., E-RYT 500, RCYT, Lead Trainer. In children's yoga since 2001. Co-wrote YogaKids' Tools for Schools in 2007 and is one of only two teachers shown throughout its videos. Spent seven years at YogaKids as lead trainer, mentor coordinator, program director and curriculum writer. Before that, head of Language Arts in a Georgia public middle school. Master of Education, University of Georgia. Trauma-informed trained. Presenter at the National Kids Yoga Conference in 2016 and 2017.

Sedef Dion, E-RYT 500, RCYT, Lead Trainer. Co-created Step 2 and teaches it. Teaching yoga since 1999 and children since 2005. Over ten years teaching students with special needs, and currently teaches yoga at All Kids First and ABA of Georgia autism centers alongside personalised classes at her own studio. Creator of Pre-Grounded. Kundalini certified under Mukta Kaur Khalsa, and a member of Yoga Alliance and IKYTA.

What is included?

The weekends are the training. This is everything that comes with them.

  • 88 live hours taught by Amy and Sedef, on Zoom or in person in Alpharetta. Every Step runs both ways.
  • Every weekend recorded. You keep lifetime access to the videos on Vimeo, so you can go back to any session whenever you want.
  • Physical materials posted to you, not downloads. See the table above.
  • Mentorship afterwards, by email, text or phone.
  • A listing in our teacher directory. After Step 1 you are listed as a Grounded Teacher. After you complete the certification your listing changes to Certified. Anyone can search the directory by location. There is no fee, ever.
  • The teachers page, with free downloads and resources. No fee.
  • Room and board if you want it. Out of town trainees can stay for some or all of the Steps, for an additional charge.

What can one Step count toward?

One weekend can count as any one of these, depending on what you need. You cannot count the same hours twice.

  • Your 95 hour certification. Each Step is part of the full RCYT path.
  • Yoga Alliance continuing education, 22 CEU hours per Step, if you are not already counting those hours toward the 95.
  • A 300 hour teacher training. Yoga Alliance has already agreed our training counts as an elective toward a 300 hour teacher training. The 300 hour school just has to say yes.

What is RCYT?

RCYT stands for Registered Children's Yoga Teacher. It is the Yoga Alliance credential an individual teacher holds, and it is different from RCYS, Registered Children's Yoga School, which is the credential a school holds. Grounded Kids is a Registered Children's Yoga School, so the hours you earn here count toward your RCYT.

Yoga Alliance asks for three things before you can register:

  • A 200 hour teacher training with an RYS 200
  • A 95 hour children's yoga training with a Registered Children's Yoga School
  • At least 30 hours of teaching children's yoga, done after you finish that 95 hour training

You do not need the 200 hour first to take this training. Yoga Alliance's standard says teachers may complete the two programs in any order, and that you cannot register as an RCYT until the RYT is complete. So you can start here and finish the 200 hour later, or the other way round.

Yoga Alliance sets what the 95 hours must cover, and at least 37 of those hours must be with a lead trainer. At Grounded Kids, 88 of the 95 are.

How do I become a certified kids yoga teacher?

You can become a certified kids yoga teacher by completing a comprehensive training program like the one offered by Grounded Kids Yoga. Our certification includes instructional hours, practice teaching, alignment techniques, and a full curriculum kit. You can train online or in person and start teaching right away upon completion.

What certification do I need to teach yoga to children?

To teach yoga to children, it’s recommended and in many schools required to complete a specialized kids yoga teacher training. Grounded Kids Yoga offers a certification that prepares you to teach in schools, studios, therapy settings, and enrichment programs. Our program is trauma-informed, SEL-aligned, and developmentally appropriate for kids of all ages.

Do I need to be a yoga teacher or educator to enroll in your program?

Not at all. Our certification is designed for educators, therapists, counselors, parents, yoga teachers or anyone who works with children and teens. You don’t need prior teaching or yoga experience. We meet you where you are and provide everything you need to feel confident and ready to teach.

Can I take the kids yoga certification course online?

Absolutely. Our certification can be completed 100% online. The most effective way to do this is during a live training on Zoom. That way you have the support of a cohort. Otherwise you may take a training through self-paced videos. Either way, you’ll receive lifetime access to training videos, teaching manuals and accompanying materials bundle as well as downloadable resources. We also offer live office hours and coaching support to guide you every step of the way.

How long does it take to complete your kids yoga certification?

Our certification program includes 88 training hours, divided into 4 steps, usually once a month. Each step is 22 hours and offered Friday evening through Sunday late afternoon. If you want to finish more quickly, then choose one of our intensive offerings and complete in as little as 10 consecutive weekdays of training. You will begin assignments during training and have ample time to turn in the final copies. Most participants finish the independent hours within 1–3 months while balancing other responsibilities. Those hours consist of you completing and teaching the plans that we create during the contact training hours.

Will I be qualified to teach in schools, studios, or after-school programs after certification?

Yes. Our graduates are successfully teaching in public and private schools, studios, therapy centers, and after-school programs. You’ll be qualified to lead standalone kids yoga classes or integrate yoga into other roles you already hold.

How do you help me launch classes or yoga clubs after training?

If you’re in the Atlanta area, you’re welcome to apply to teach with us. Grounded Kids Yoga is an approved vendor in most metro school systems, and we regularly hire from our certified graduate pool to lead after-school yoga clubs. Yoga studios in Atlanta are also familiar with our training and often request our graduates because they know they are well-prepared, creative, and professional.

Beyond Atlanta, Grounded Kids Yoga is well-respected across the country and beyond. Our certification gives you the clarity and confidence to begin teaching wherever you are. Many of our graduates launch classes in yoga studios, schools, clinics, or community spaces right away. You’ll learn how to structure your offerings, communicate your value, and take the next step toward your career goals with real tools and a proven method.

Amy and Sedef are easily available for guidance, and we also offer formal mentorship for those who want deeper support as they grow. Whether you’re looking to teach part-time or pursue a full career in kids yoga, we’ll help you take your first steps with purpose and support.

Will I be listed in your teacher directory?

Yes, and it is free for life. After Step 1 you are listed as a Grounded Teacher. After you complete the certification your listing changes to Certified. Anyone can search the directory by location, and there is no fee, ever.

Does the training count for educator or therapist continuing education?

Georgia educators: professional learning for certificate renewal is approved and recorded by your own district, not by an outside company. Ask your school or district to accept the training as professional learning and we will send the syllabus, the contact hours and a completion letter to support the request.

Counselors, social workers and therapists: if we are not currently an approved continuing education provider for your licensing board, your hours may not count, so check with your board before you enroll. Every graduate receives a printed and digital certificate, and we will write a completion letter with contact hours if you need one.

Do you offer payment plans for certification or bundles?

Yes. We offer monthly payment plans for certification trainings and split payment options for large product orders. You’ll see the available plans at checkout, or you can contact us for a custom setup.

What is your refund or cancellation policy?

Our full cancellation and refund policy is on our Privacy Policy, Terms & Code of Conduct page.

Do I need to complete the certification training courses within a certain time frame?

No deadlines here. You can complete your training at your own pace and come back to it anytime, as long as we stay in touch.

Will I be notified if you update the training content or manuals?

We don’t send automatic notifications, but you’re always welcome to email and ask if an updated version is available. If you’d like the latest version of a training manual, we’ll let you know how to purchase it.

What if I lose my login or can’t access my account?

Reach out directly to Amy at amy@groundedkids.com. She’ll help you get back into your account and make sure you can access everything you’ve purchased.
