Chakras & Superpowers: A Blissful Yoga Adventure for Kids

It all began one morning while scrolling Grounded Kids Yoga’s Facebook page. Co-Founder Amy Haysman had posted a super cool photo of Deepak Chopra’s book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Superheroes—and the cover instantly captured my imagination.

There she was: a new kind of superhero with the world in her hands and the words, “Harnessing Our Power to Change the World.” I had to learn more.

In the book, Chopra teaches us that when we explore the boundaries of energy and awareness, we better understand ourselves—and unlock the potential to change the world. YES. This made total sense to me. And so, I accepted the challenge: to save the world, one Chakra at a time.

From Inspired to Ignited

As I dove into my own Chakra journey, I felt more grounded, creative, present, and aware than ever before. My soul opened up—and I knew I had to bring this to my students.

Tapping Into Super Powers with Yoga

Kids LOVE discovering their inner super powers. Teaching them about the Chakra system through movement, breath, and storytelling made yoga not only accessible—but empowering.

As we balanced each energy center, the kids became more in tune with their bodies, emotions, and strengths. Their senses sharpened, and their confidence blossomed.

Just like Hulk, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl have superpowers… so do we! When we activate our inner energy, life becomes more blissful.

🔴 Red Chakra (Root): KA-BOOM!
Foundation, safety, and living in the present moment. Helps us feel secure and grounded.
🟠 Orange Chakra (Sacral): OM-POW!
Creativity, feelings, and movement. Connects us to others.
🟡 Yellow Chakra (Solar Plexus): ZAAAP!
Our power center. Builds confidence and independence.
💚 Green Chakra (Heart): ZING!
Emotional balance and compassion. Centers us in peace.
💠 Blue Chakra (Throat): OM-BAAM!
Self-expression and truth. Bridges mind and body.
🔵 Indigo Chakra (Third Eye): THWAP!
Intuition and insight. Strengthens visualization.
💜 Violet Chakra (Crown): NAMASTE!
Awareness and spiritual connection. Deepens our wisdom.

Creating Chakra Superheroes

Each week, we explored a new Chakra and designed our own Chakra Superhero. Kids drew, named, and embodied their unique powers. Our heart-centered theme was always: Bliss.

Anusara Yoga founder John Friend once said, “Yeah, I’m blissed out. I’m dancing better with the Divine all the time.”

That’s how I want our kids to feel. Blissed out. Joyful. Empowered. Connected.

By the end of our journey, each student had a new way of expressing themselves—and tools to tap into their full potential.

“Chakraaariffic!” became our battle cry.

  • A Grounded Guide for Kids: Inspired by the Wisdom of The Little Prince

little_princeGrown-ups like numbers. When you tell them about a new friend, they never ask questions about what really matters. They never ask: “What does his voice sound like?” “What games does he like best?” “Does he collect butterflies?” They ask: “How old is he?” “How many brothers does he have?” “How much does he weigh?” “How much does his father make?” Only then do they think they know him. If you tell grown-ups, “I saw a beautiful red brick house, with geraniums at the windows and doves on the roof…” They won’t be able to imagine such a house. You have to tell them “I saw a house worth a hundred thousand francs.” Then they exclaim, “What a pretty house!”…That’s the way they are. You must not hold it against them. Children should be very understanding of grown-ups.

  • Inner Flexibility

BB40 big“How do you become flexible on the Inside?”

That is the question that I was asked by 4th grade student Isabelle at Yoga Club last week. We were working on acknowledging what we could use more of: strength, balance, or flexibility. After meditating to find what we had the least of, Isabelle raised her hand and asked this question. I stumbled for words, trying to be eloquent and honest on the spot. I spoke of the importance of strength and balance in finding inner flexibility… but honestly this answer felt like it came up short. I found myself reflecting on this question for the rest of the day (the class was over at 3:30pm). I consulted some dear friends and got many good suggestions such as taking a walk, for no other reason than to walk.

But here is what I came up with, that resonates as the voice of my own truth.

Being flexible on the inside is a lifelong process. There is a big difference between being loosey goosey with no boundaries, and being open to change and to testing new waters. These two polarities give us a framework for the spectrum of possibility. At the beginning, at the core, and at the point of willingness, is a strong inner truth. This truth is clear, it reminds me who I am, what is most important to me. For some this is a relationship with family or friends. For others their connection to their higher power is the most precious thing in their lives. Maybe for you it’s a sport, or a mission, or catfishing. I check in, sometimes daily, sometimes hourly, with my Truth. Each time I face a new challenge I ask myself “Does this bring me closer or farther away from _________________.”

    Stop Foot, Go Foot

Dr. Suess’s “The FOOT Book” is a delightful tribute to the diverse and multifaceted world of feet. In honor of his fun Suess_openand quirky rhymes, I have put my best foot forward here, in a whimsical approach to show how to work your feet. When you keep your feet in line, you will stay in line. Clearly listen to your feet and discover where they tend to go. Do they turn out or in?  Are they crooked? Do you tend to have low back pain or knee pain? Often this can be traced to your feet.
When you have clarity in your feet, your life will be sweet.
As Abraham Lincoln said “Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.”
